Also known as the “City of Lakes,” or “Venice of the East” or “Jewel of Mewar” Udaipur is one of Rajasthan’s loveliest and most romantic cities. Udaipur, ringed with several artificial lakes and located within the Aravalli hills, is a breathtaking beauty with white marble palaces, imposing havelis, and vibrant bazaars. Its serene Lake Pichola and Fateh Sagar Lake set a romantic backdrop for the city’s imposing buildings, exuding an aura of timeless grandeur and romance. With such beautiful lake views and the city is the backdrop, it is a massive complex consisting of interlinked palaces, courtyards, gardens and pavilions.

The distance from Pushkar to Udaipur is around 220 to 230 kms. Travellers need to consider the road distance for practical travel needs. The standard road trip ranges from 270 to 290 kms, depending on the precise route and detours. When average speed while driving, road conditions, and breaks needed for refreshments are included, the journey usually takes 5 to 6 hours.

How to travel the distance?

By Taxi or Cab – For this route, the most versatile and commonly recommended mode of transport. Pushkar makes it easy to hire a private taxi. Comfort, privacy and the ability to stop on the way at refreshments or at scenic spots or small villages are all advantages of this option. Taxis for this journey can be hired through several Pushkar travel agencies. The vehicle type and whether it is one-way or round-trip will influence the cost.

By Bus – RSRTC and many private operators operate frequent bus services that link Pushkar to Udaipur. You may not be as frequent; you can normally get the connecting buses that change at either Ajmer to Udaipur. Travel by local bus or auto-rickshaw to Ajmer bus stand, where you get direct or connecting buses to Udaipur

By Train – There’s no direct railway connectivity from Pushkar to Udaipur. The closest large railway station to Pushkar is Ajmer Junction. You can get to direct Udaipur City Railway Station from Ajmer. You can take a short taxi or auto rickshaw ride from Pushkar to Ajmer railway station and then board a train to Udaipur. It is advisable to plan a train timetable and make ticket bookings ahead of time, particularly during the peak season.

When is the best time to visit Udaipur and Pushkar?

The winter months from October to March are the best times of the year to visit both Pushkar and Udaipur.  For sightseeing, boating, and availing of the outdoor facilities, the weather is pleasant and favourable. Travel and outdoor pursuits can be marred by the scorching heat of summer and heavy rainfalls of the monsoon.

Is it possible to do a day excursion from Pushkar to Udaipur?

Overall, a day excursion from Pushkar to Udaipur is not recommended. It will take 5 to 6 hours to travel one way. You must spend a minimum of 1 to 2 full days in Udaipur, with an overnight stay being essential to appreciate the city’s architectural wonders.
